Picturevietnameseboatpeople Feb 23,2022 - Vietnamese Boat People Podcast presents a LIVE podcast taping event with Trung Lê Nguyễn, author and illustrator of THE MAGIC FISH, published by Random House Graphic. Join us for our first live virtual event of 2022! We are excited to host the wonderfully talented Trung Lê Nguyễn. Trung is a Vietnamese American comic book artist and writer from Minnesota, who was born in a refugee camp in the Philippine province of Palawan. His first original graphic novel, THE MAGIC FISH, won two Harvey Awards. The book is about Tiến, a young Vietnamese immigrant, his parents, and the relationship they share through fairytale books used to learn English. It is a beautifully illustrated story that follows a young boy as he tries to navigate life through fairytales. Tiến enjoys reading his favorite stories with his parents from the books he borrows from the local library. But the stories have a deeper meaning for Tiến, who struggles to tell his parents that he’s gay. THE MAGIC FISH tackles tough subjects in a way that is accessible to readers of all ages and teaches us that--no matter what--we can all have our own unique fairytale endings.
